Catskills Snow Days

March 20th is the first day of Spring. That’s not very far away, yet THREE massive storms have whipped through the Catskills recently, and just poured snow on us.

Trees have taken out power lines, whole towns are without internet, and so many people still don’t have power, it’s crazy. While those things are very annoying, even I have to admit the landscape blanketed in snow is very, very pretty.

As I’ve written about so many times, my best friend lives up here, so we’ve had our share of winter “glory days” which is where we stay in our pj’s all day and watch Netflix and eat snacks for all our meals. It’s pretty much my favorite thing ever. Occassionally, friends will convince us the leave the house, done only by cooking delicious dinners.

One of the better parts about being forced to stay inside when it looks like this…

…is that I get to catch up on my reading, I’m currently in the middle of Enigma Variations by André Aciman (the same author who wrote the incredible book Call Me By Your Name, which was just made into one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever seen).

But sometimes, I bundle the little one up, bundle myself up, and go listen to the snow fall by the stream.

It is incredibly relaxing to stand there with my eyes closed just listening, even if my toes can only take a few minutes before they go numb.

I’m not saying I’m NOT counting down the hours until spring arrives, but making the most of it in the meantime.

Also, we got a little surprise when Katie’s wedding was featured in the newspaper. This cover photo was one I took of her on her wedding day at Handsome Hollow, so now we’ve both found ourselves in print!
